Americanizing My Grammar
I'm going to honest with you. It was pretty late in the game that I realized spelling and grammar differences between Canadian and American standards went beyond spellings (color vs colour, center vs centre, etc.). Canadians use a lot of UK standards, and my intended audience is primarily American, so I TRIED to follow American standards..
So, it turns out UK vs American treatment of full stops within quotes are different too! As you can imagine, this freaked me out a bit because I imagined the nightmare of having to correct an entire manuscript of misplaced punctuation (which is always hard to spot, and I'm wary about completely relying on grammar check). Fortunately, it turns out I'm Americanized enough to have been using quotes the way I intended. I guess that's good?
I know a good editor will catch this kind of thing, but it still took me down a deep rabbithole of grammar differences. Below is a link to a great, starting list of differences between the two I found on the University of Nevada website.
